Scolopendra sp White Beard(Giant White Beard Centipede)
The Giant White Beard Centipede (Scolopendra sp. "White Beard") is a massive, fast, and aggressive species of centipede native to Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Key Characteristics
• Size: They commonly reach 6 to 8 inches in length, and adult specimens can exceed 10 to 12 inches.
• Appearance: They feature a dark, segmented body, reddish-orange legs, and long white antennae which give them their "white beard" common name.
• Temperament: They are exceptionally fast, defensive, and quick to bite if disturbed.
• Venom: Like other large Asian Scolopendra species, their bite is medically significant and notoriously painful, though generally not lethal to healthy humans.
Care and Keeping (Not for Beginners)
Due to their speed, potent venom, and unpredictable nature, White Beard centipedes are strictly recommended for experienced keepers.
• Housing: They require a secure, escape-proof enclosure with a moisture gradient using substrate like soil, sphagnum moss, and cork bark for hiding.
• Environment: They thrive in tropical humidity (around 70–80%) and warm temperatures.
• Diet: As active carnivores, they feed on crickets, roaches, worms, and other large feeder insects.
